As 2024 comes to a close, the final Event Horizon December 23-31, offers a glimpse into the exciting opportunities awaiting in January. From an ice skating and project tour with IES DC and IALD to the opening of submissions for the 2025 IES Illumination Awards, the lighting industry is poised for a dynamic start to the new year. Additionally, residential lighting enthusiasts can look forward to an insightful DLFNY event on achieving effective and beautiful lighting. Details for each event are below. 

2025 IES Illumination Awards Submissions Open

The 2025 IES Illumination Awards open January 2. Open to members and non-members, the program evaluates projects based on individual merit, not as a competition. Submissions must be completed within 24 months of the program date. New this year is the Experiential Lighting Design award, honoring immersive, themed projects. Early bird submissions run January 2-24, with regular submissions closing February 21. Fees: $265/$365 (early) and $320/$420 (regular). Click here to learn more. 

IES DC + IALD: Ice Skating & Veterans Plaza Project Tour

Join IES DC and IALD on January 23, for an evening of hot cocoa, a project tour, and ice skating! Start at Sweeteria in Silver Spring for cocoa at 6 PM, followed by a guided tour of the new Veterans Plaza led by Jess Krometis of Hartranft Lighting Studio at 7 PM. DLFNY Residential Lighting: Good Light / Bad Light

Join lighting expert Dan Blitzer and designer Sirun Olivapotenza on January 8 for insights on achieving beautiful, effective residential lighting. Enjoy a free evening of refreshments, a presentation, and networking at NYSID’s Arthur Satz Auditorium, 170 East 70th Street. Click here to register.
