Why Light+ Replaces LightFair as the Industry’s New Rallying Cry
I’m genuinely thrilled that Messe Frankfurt has launched Light + Intelligent Building North America. This bold biennial has all the makings of the next great lighting-industry gathering. While I strongly applaud the launch of Light + Intelligent Building North America, the new biennial trade show needs a shorter, catchier nickname.
Light + Intelligent Building North America rolls off the tongue in 13 syllables—compared to the crisp, two-syllable LightFair. Try saying the full name without pausing for breath: Light + Intelligent Building North America. It’s hard to say and even harder to remember.
Messe Frankfurt already has this formula down globally. Light + Building in Frankfurt (four syllables) is iconic. Light + Intelligent Building Middle East in Dubai shortens to the snappy Light Middle East in everyday use. So, why not give Light + Intelligent Building North America the same treatment?
The new website—lightintelligentbuildingna.us.messefrankfurt.com—proves the point. Thank goodness browsers auto-fill, because no one is typing that twice.
I asked ChatGPT for shortened options. Here’s what it spat out:
- LIBNA
- LIB North America
- L+IBNA
- Light+IBNA
None work. LIBNA sounds like a country. LIB screams politics. The others are alphabet soup.
My vote? Light+.
Light+ Replaces LightFair
Two syllables. Instantly recognizable. Instantly brandable. So the North American edition deserves the same courtesy, especially when Light+ replaces LightFair as the event everyone actually attends and talks about.
It keeps “light” front and center—exactly where it belongs—while the sleek “+” carries the entire promise of intelligent buildings, controls, integration, and next-generation design. It looks sharp on a badge, perfect as #Light+2026.
The vision, exhibitor lineup, and timing are all in place for Light + Intelligent Building North America to become the defining North American lighting event of the decade. Now it just needs the nickname we’ll actually use when we say, “See you at Light+.”
Light+ Say it once, and you’ll never go back to the thirteen-syllable version again.
What do you think? Are you ready to call it Light+? Or do you have an even better shorthand? Drop your vote to [email protected]. Let’s give this powerhouse show the name it has already earned.
