BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, March 18, 2025 — Available Light, an internationally renowned experiential lighting design firm, is delighted to announce the promotion of Kate Furst to Principal.
“Bringing with her an already impressive resume, Kate joined our team three years ago. While we hadn’t planned on expanding to Los Angeles, Kate’s exceptional skills as a lighting designer, her seasoned professionalism, and her inspiring leadership qualities made our decision to expand a fait accompli.” said Steven Rosen, CEO and Founder. “In just three short years, the studio has grown from one person to a team of six wonderful designers. We’ve also expanded into Themed Entertainment, further diversifying our already broad portfolio of lighting disciplines. Working with and learning from Kate has been a pleasure, her invaluable contributions have benefitted both our team and our clients.”
Kate is a respected and celebrated lighting designer in the architectural and experience design communities. She views lighting as a powerful tool to elevate stories and shape environments. Her work blends bold, innovative design concepts with a deep understanding of both creative and technical challenges, ensuring that light is seamlessly integrated within the built environment.
Kate holds a B.S. in Business Administration and Theater from Mary Washington College, and an MFA in Lighting Design from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. An active member of both the IES and IALD, she serves on the IES-LA Board of Managers and is also deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of lighting designers by serving as Chair of the Russell Cole Memorial Student Lighting Design Competition and as the Lighting Lead for the SoCal NOMA Summer Camp program.
Her architectural project experience spans a broad range of dynamic and sophisticated project types, including retail, themed entertainment, museums, hospitality, offices, residential, landscape architecture, and multi-media projects. Kate’s designs have garnered multiple awards from both the Illuminating Engineering Society and the Themed Entertainment Association.
Kate is stepping into her new responsibilities with enthusiasm, saying, “I’m truly honored to take on the role of Managing Principal Lighting Designer for our Los Angeles studio. I am grateful for the amazing team whose talent and creativity inspire me every day, and I am eager to help shape a bright future together. I am so excited by what lies ahead!”
