Pharos Architectural Controls Showcased Generative Lighting Control Software
FRANKFURT — Pharos Controls used Light + Building 2026 to preview a new generation of lighting control software focused on generative effects and interactive lighting. The company showed how modern control platforms are helping designers create lighting that moves, reacts, and changes over time. The demonstration highlighted how software is becoming the center of many lighting installations.
During an interview at the EdisonReport studio in Frankfurt, Jack Neill, product director of Pharos Controls, discussed the company’s latest technology and its recent acquisition by ETC.
ETC Acquisition Strengthens Long Partnership
The purchase of Pharos Controls by ETC had been widely expected across the industry. Jack explained that the two companies had worked together for many years, making the move a natural step.
According to Jack, most customers responded positively to the news. Many already connected the two brands because of their long history working together in architectural and entertainment lighting control.
New Playback Engine Powers Future Platform
At the show, Pharos focused on concepts for the future of its control platform. One of the key demonstrations was a redesigned playback engine.
Jack described the playback engine as the “beating heart” of the controller. It determines how lighting fixtures behave during a show or installation.
A major advancement is the use of generative lighting effects. Traditional lighting systems often repeat the same programmed sequence. The new engine allows lighting scenes to keep evolving without obvious looping.
Interactive Lighting Responds in Real Time
The new platform also supports interactive lighting experiences. Sensors can trigger lighting effects in real time, allowing installations to react to movement, gestures, or other inputs.
Jack described a demonstration where visitors controlled a lighting “water level” effect using a distance sensor. As a person raised or lowered their hand, the lighting responded instantly, creating a simple but engaging interaction.
Pharos also highlighted strong growth in DALI control. Jack noted that the company introduced its four-port DALI gateway about a year ago, and it quickly became one of the company’s most successful product releases.
Jack said the next major evolution of the Pharos control platform is expected to reach customers within the next year. The technology was previewed at Light + Building 2026 in Frankfurt, the lighting industry’s largest global event.
