The 2024 Russell Cole Memorial Lighting Design Competition challenges participants to illuminate a refined Mexican seafood restaurant in Frogtown, Los Angeles. The project aims to evoke the relaxed ambiance of a Mexican beach town while offering an upscale dining experience. Participants are tasked with crafting lighting designs for various dining areas, including lounge/bar, ceviche and raw bar, private party room, and outdoor patio, aiming to enhance the overall atmosphere. The competition provides specific guidelines for both conceptual and advanced entries, emphasizing creativity, technical expertise, and compliance with industry standards. The competition, organized by the Illuminating Engineering Society, Los Angeles Section (IESLA), offers awards and recognition to students who demonstrate exceptional talent and innovation in lighting design. Eligible participants must be enrolled in accredited programs at educational institutions in Southern California. Submissions are due 8 May.
