Position summary:
This individual will be part of an integrated team performing lighting design services. We are looking for a team member who can function independently, collaborate on a team level, manage multiple assignments, and contribute to the growth of Rushing. Applicants must be committed to strengthening skills while gaining experience in a professional work environment. The lighting designer will undertake various responsibilities as a member of the staff, will participate in department meetings, and will provide support for various tasks under the guidance of their supervisor.

Responsibilities:
Preparing lighting concept boards.
Producing lighting layouts in Revit.
Producing lighting fixture schedules.
Preparing lighting control layouts and sequence schedules.
Preparing lighting specification packages.
Conducting lighting photometric calculations using AGi 32 Software.
Completing energy code forms.
Coordinating lighting details.
Reviewing lighting submittals and prior approval packages.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a design program related to architecture, interior design, engineering, architectural engineering, or lighting design—preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Strong computer skills including knowledge of Bluebeam, Word, Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint—required.
Experience with Revit.
Photoshop knowledge—preferred.
AGI 32 experience—preferred.

Critical thinking; ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines and production schedules in fast-paced environment
Keen eye for design and creativity

Job Description
Permanent position for a Lighting Controls Specialist to design and draft project submittal documentation to support projects and design build projects as required for commercial and industrial lighting projects in a CAD environment.
Performing CAD design and other assignments under the direction of the Controls Supervisor in the controls team interpreting markups and generating accurate drawings.
Performing drafting of tasks based on input from Controls Supervisor or Outside Sales Specialists for integration into specifications and/or installations.
Performing drawing revisions and tracking changes throughout the submittal process.
Assist the Sales team in quoting electrical controls portions of projects.
Responsible for some aspects of electrical/control system design, specification, testing, and customer demonstration.
Create bills of material, one-line schematics, electrical drawings, etc. using software (AGI32, AutoCad, etc.) in support of the lighting control design.
Responsible for field service and start-up, consisting of start-up, checkout, commissioning, troubleshooting, equipment placement and repair, training, etc.

Required Qualifications
Ability to read, understand and interpret specifications, architectural and electrical drawings and take off blueprints.
Experience with design and drafting of wiring diagrams, electrical design and lighting layouts.
Knowledge of basic concepts of electricity and electrical trouble shooting.
Experience with engineering design and technical drawing.
Solid working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of AGI32, and Revit design software preferred.
Ability travel to customer sites for equipment start-up and commissioning.
Typical travel is approximately 30% - 50% - with peaks and lulls.
Travel duration for a typical start-up could be 1-8 hours for 3-5 days. Some overnight stays are required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Design lighting for exhibition galleries and gallery rotations, in collaboration with other lighting designers; work independently on smaller projects and collaboratively on larger projects
Participate in preliminary design phase meetings and provide cost estimates and timelines for workload
Conduct visual research and concept development
Produce appropriate presentation material (drawings, renderings, specifications) for relevant exhibitions
Implement lighting for all exhibitions, rotations and gallery changes, with lighting team
Consult on lighting generally in collaboration with conservation for light level requirements, UV protection, and color temperature, with lighting team
Ensure timely and quality execution
Maintain an organized work and storage space
Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience and Skills:
1-3 years of experience in lighting design, preferably in the arts
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Experience working around art, previous art handling experience a plus
Comfortable with heights
Ability to read and/or draft lighting design drawings including light plots on reflected ceiling plans
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Ability to lift approx. 25-30 lbs.
Ability to lift objects overhead
Ability to operate a scissor lift during installation; safety training is mandatory and will be provided
Strong collaborative spirit and ability to function as part of a team

Knowledge and Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Theater, Fine Arts or related field
Experience with lighting equipment, lamps, and lighting practices is a plus
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required. Familiarity with CAD, Vectorworks, and Photoshop, is preferred.
