Icon Award Recipient Dan Blitzer

At the Beacon Awards at Sony Hall in New York City, Designing Lighting editor Randy Reid sat down with Dan Blitzer, the most recent Icon Award recipient, to look back on a career that has shaped lighting education and the industry. A great-grandson of Lightolier’s founder, Blitzer began as a salesman in San Francisco and went on to lead marketing and communications work, form the Practical Lighting Workshop, teach at the Philips Lighting Application Center for 16 years, and join the faculty at the New York School of Interior Design.

Blitzer also talks about his three-decade involvement with DLFNY and the Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education, including the $1 million DLFNY commitment he helped secure, the Paul Marantz Scholarship, and the Chip Israel Gateway Grant, which is designed to draw new people into lighting education.
