Introducing the Light Justice NOW Awards

Awards Will Be Presented at LightFair 2025

On 5 APR, Light Justice, IES, and the New School at Parsons hosted the Light + Justice Symposium: Interior Spaces. Attending the meeting virtually, I was deeply moved and inspired to support this important cause.

The symposium featured a distinguished panel, including Edward Bartholomew, principal at Bartholomew Lighting and co-founder of Light Justice; Glenn Shrum, assistant professor at Parsons School of Design and principal of Flux Studio; Lya Shaffer Osborn, lighting and interior designer and co-founder of Light Justice; and Brienne Willcock, lighting education director at IES.

After the event, Edward and I brainstormed how the EdisonReport Media Network could best advocate for this vital cause. I am humbled and honored to announce that designing lighting (dl) will launch our first-ever awards program, the Light Justice NOW Awards.

The word NOW is intentionally bolded and capitalized to underscore the urgency of taking action immediately. We are currently finalizing the criteria and will select judges later this year. Initially, consideration will be given for designs that focus on human health and the cultural implications of light. Another consideration will be for promoting diversity and incorporating social justice into lighting standards and practices.

Submissions will be due in February 2025, and the awards will be presented at LightFair 2025 in Las Vegas.

As we develop the criteria, we welcome new ideas. Please send them directly to me at editor@designinglighting.com.
