IALD Welcomes New Professional Members

CHICAGO, IL USA, 18 MARCH 2021 | The IALD is pleased to welcome the following Professional level members to the IALD.

IALD Professional membership is available to architectural lighting designers who have at least five years of experience in the field in the role of senior designer or above in an independent consulting practice. IALD members worldwide must meet the highest educational and ethical standards in order to belong to this prestigious community, and are accepted as Professional members on the strength of their portfolios and recommendations.

Mandar Bankhele, IALD is co-founder and a principal of Lighting Ergonomics, a lighting design firm with offices in the USA and India. With more than 22 years of architectural lighting design experience, Mandar has played many roles, as an architect, interior designer, industrial designer, and now as lighting consultant and designer. Throughout his career, he’s worked on prestigious projects with highly ranked design firms in diverse projects ranging from corporate, healthcare, retail, hospitality, to higher education, condominiums, and R&D. A graduate from Savitribai Phule Pune University, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a post-graduate certification in Lighting Design from Ryerson University in Toronto. He earned a gold medal for his final year B.Arch. project of the City Museum for his ingenious use of Daylighting. Mandar is a Lighting Certified by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professionals (NCQLP) and is an active contributor to the profession, having served on LightFair’s Conference Advisory Committee and the IES Daylight Design Committee.

SUZANNE BRANCH, IALD, AIA

Suzanne Branch, IALD, AIA founded LuM Architectural Lighting Design Consulting in 1998. Since then, she has provided award-winning lighting design services for projects in a wide variety of industry sectors including workplace, healthcare, hospitality, educational, mixed-use, multi-family, and private residential. Collaborating with some of the largest and most prestigious architecture firms during these 23 years, her projects have received accolades from the Illuminating Engineering Society, American Institute of Architects and have been published in local and national design publications. With a background in architecture and expertise in lighting design, Suzanne brings a unique perspective to design-team work-sessions. Her passion for architecturally-integrated lighting as opposed to applied lighting is a hallmark of her design approach. Suzanne holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Oklahoma State University and is a registered Architect in the state of Texas. She and her architect-husband have two Labrador retrievers and split their time between Dallas, their ranch in Oklahoma and the Colorado Rockies.

Erin Dreyfous, IALD joined Tillotson Design Associates (TDA) in 2007 upon graduating from Parsons: The New School for Design with an MFA in Architectural Lighting Design. Her prior experience includes work as an apprentice electrician and as a freelance lighting designer. She served as an IALD New York City Regional Coordinator from 2013 to 2015. In 2018 Erin was named one of Lighting Magazine’s 40 under 40 “to watch” and joined Suzan Tillotson as Partner of TDA. Erin has guest-lectured for architectural graduate students at Columbia University, has presented her award-winning projects to fellow colleagues through the DLF Organization, and has served on juries including Architectural Record’s competition panel for Best New Products of the Year. Erin’s notable TDA projects include the Broad Museum in Los Angeles, CA; the Comcast Technology and Innovation Center in Philadelphia, PA; Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis, MN; One Vanderbilt Tower and The Shed in New York, NY.

Maria Favoino, IALD is a lighting designer at 18 Degrees architectural lighting design studio. Her expertise is grounded in more than 10-years of experience in architecture, with specific application of light in the built environment. Maria is a native of Italy and speaks four languages. She has practiced architecture in Italy and Spain and has a portfolio of international projects in countries including Qatar, China, Ethiopia, and Tunisia. She moved to London in 2014 to pursue a career in architectural lighting design. Light has always been at the centre of her research and professional growth. Maria’s projects are characterised by the composition of light and the synthesis of pattern, rhythm, symmetry, balance, contrast, and proportion.

CLIFTON MANAHAN, IALD

Clifton Manahan, IALD joined HLB Lighting Design in 2010. Since then, Clifton’s work has become a critical underpinning to some of HLB’s most complex design challenges. He developed methodologies to transform and streamline the 3D lighting modeling process. He also serves on internal technical committees that focus on design procedures, quality control and specification integrity. As a result of these efforts, new techniques have been developed on several fronts including systems to guide clients through lighting budgeting priorities, enabling alignment of project goals and resources early on. Clifton has been the lead designer on several award-winning projects, with recognitions that include four national IES Awards of Merit, three local IES section Awards of Merit and three Awards of Excellence. His extensive portfolio encompasses every market sector and touches all corners of the world. Clifton maintains a high level of involvement in the lighting community including the IES and IALD.
