Rachel Gibney, Assoc. IALD, hails from the great state of Arizona where she began her career as a theatrical lighting designer. An interest in architectural lighting design first led her to an internship at Available Light and she has been climbing the responsibility ladder ever since! With a recent move back to her home state, Rachel will lead the charge of a new Available Light West studio. Rachel’s talents have been instrumental to the success of many award-winning museum and architectural projects including the El Paso Children’s Museum, new science complexes for Williams and Skidmore Colleges, and new pavilions for the National WWII Museum. As an industry leader, Rachel contributes to Women in Lighting + Design, and two IES standards committees: Education, Library, Office Lighting and Theater, Film, and Television Lighting. Ms Gibney is an adjunct faculty member at North Carolina School of the Arts and Studio School of Design teaching Revit/BIM software to Theatrical Design students.
Throughout his design career, John Delfino, Assoc. IALD has employed theatrical and architectural lighting techniques combined with a deep understanding of underlying technologies and control systems in the service of creating transportive environments in a variety of metiers. Projects range from architecture and exhibits for the El Paso Children’s Museum to office towers in NYC to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Dedicated to the development of future generations, John is adjunct faculty at both FIT and the NY School of Interior Design. He is Co-Chair of the IESNYC Student Lighting Competition.
New York native Alex Fabozzi, Jr. Assoc IALD, began his career as an accomplished lighting designer for theater and dance. Since joining Available Light, Alex has focused on museum exhibition and architectural lighting projects including the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the National Museum of African American Music, and the new science complex at Williams College. In addition, Alex is an active member of both the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES).
Hamilton E.S. Smith, Assoc. IALD, an Arizona transplant, comes to Available Light after working across the country on a myriad of projects including opera, theatre, film, events, and immersive experiences. Hess continues to enthusiastically tackle a diverse variety of projects including Woods Hill Pier 4 restaurant, United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum, National Museum of the United States Army, and the Analog Devices World Headquarters Campus. Hess, who helps to keep the Available Light software systems humming, is an active member of the IES and has served on the board of the Designers Lighting Forum
Paulina Villarroel Cruz has worked as a video and film professional for over 15 years in both Boston and New York. She has worked on dozens of projects variously serving as Producer, Video Production Manager, Youth Media Educator, and Festival Programmer. Prior to joining Available Light, Paulina was the Associcate Director of Museum Development at Northern Light Productions. At Available Light, Paulina spearheads all marketing activities and outreach initiatives while overseeing proposal efforts and strategic planning for the firm. Award-winning projects on which she has worked include the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum, the International Spy Museum, and Amherst College New Science Center. Paulina is an active member of the Boston Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, where she serves on the Outreach Committee.
Although Ben Wilson, Jr., Assoc. IALD, trained as a lighting designer for the stage, his desire to apply that skill set to both museum exhibition and architecture led him directly to Available Light. Since joining the firm, Ben’s projects have included galleries in the new wing at the Peabody Essex Museum, The new introductory son et lumiere intro presentation at the Boston Museum of Science Mugar Omni Theater, and the new visitor experience at The First Church Christ, Scientist in Boston. He is an active member of both the IALD and the IES. Ben is passionate about environmental sustainability and technical innovation.
Lindsay Duval, Jr. Assoc. IALD, prior to joing Available Light, Lindsay was a Lighting Designer/Technician at Mohegan Sun Casino. Since joining Available Light, she has worked on several museum exhibition and architectural projects including the National Museum of the United States Army and the New Academic Building at the University of Hartford. She is also actively engaged as a designer in our Trade Show division. Lindsay is an active member of IALD and currently serves on the board of Designers Lighting Forum New England, helping to organize events and expose students/emerging professionals to the architectural lighting design profession.
Nadia Orcel studied lighting for events and multi-media art at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she received a BFA in Interrelated Media. During her time at MassArt, she worked as a freelance lighting technician in the Greater Boston events industry. Upon graduation, she worked as a Field Support Engineer for lighting manufacturer Signify where she provided high level technical lighting support, created 3D lighting visualizations for clients, assisted in the coordination of project installation/repair/preventative maintenance/engineering change documentation. At Available Light, Nadia looks to use her knowledge of art and technology in the creation of impactful and unique designs.
