HDR is currently seeking a Lighting Designer 1 for our Building Engineering Services Business Group located in Omaha, Nebraska. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team consisting of core services of Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Site Civil Engineering. In addition, we offer specialty services consisting of Fire & Life Safety, Building Commissioning, Specialty Lighting, Controls Systems, OT Cybersecurity, Low Voltage/Security/Telecom and Construction Services. Our team works in a wide variety of markets including Corporate/Commercial, Healthcare, Industrial, Water/Wastewater, Federal and Mission Critical buildings and infrastructure.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Lighting Designer 1, we'll count on you to:
● Provide lighting design support, rendering and presentation development, BIM/ Model production, report research and photometric, energy and economic calculations in support of the Lead Lighting Designer.
● Working with architectural project teams on all aspects of the art, science and business of lighting design in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
● Perform other duties as needed
Required Qualifications
●Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering specializing in Lighting Design or closely related field
● 1 years of experience with a lighting design, architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm or internship preferred.
● Strong computer skill using AGI32, Revit, and Microsoft Office
● Interest in sustainable design
● Strong verbal communication skills
● Excellent organization and time management skills
● Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
● Able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks
● An attitude and commitment to be an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications
● Master's degree in Architectural Engineering specializing in Lighting Design
● Advanced Computer Skills using Adobe Creative Suite, 3Ds Max, Sketch-up, Enscape, Rhino, Grasshopper, Lady Bub, Honeybee, DIVA

High-End Residential Lighting Designer

The High-End Residential Lighting Designer will support the work of 1 or more team members and lead and assist in the lighting design process. This position is in our Denver, Colorado office.
In this position you will be involved in all aspects of lighting design. This will include but is not limited to participation in meetings, design presentations to clients, CAD drafting, site visits, assembling cut sheet packages, fixture specifications, phone and email coordination with design and construction teams and aiming of adjustable lights. We are looking for someone with enough residential lighting design experience to understand all aspects of design and specification, but not so much experience that you cannot adapt to our standards, philosophy, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have good listening skills and should be able to take direction and run with it. We put a lot of effort into mentoring new designers. Only people who are passionate about lighting design and who are looking for a place to work for the long term should apply. Travel to Colorado mountain resort communities will be common while travel to out-of-state projects will vary depending upon the mix of our projects over time. Although some weeks are filled with conventional workdays, our work hours can best be described as asymmetric. There are many times where our work hours extend beyond daylight hours. This position will be fun, challenging, constantly evolving and very rewarding.
Requirements
● MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
● Basic understanding of residential dimming control systems
● Proficiency with AutoCAD is a must
● AGI, Revit, Photoshop, iPad, InDesign, Manufacturers’ Dimming System Software, etc. are a plus, but not required
● Good teamwork, communication, organizational, problem solving, and people skills are essential
● Thoroughness, and understanding of how to put together complete specifications and design documents
Education
● Undergraduate degree in lighting design related field
● 5 – 10 years’ experience in the professional world of residential lighting design

Senior Lighting Designer

Responsibilities
● Work directly with firm leadership on all project work and overall creative direction. Provide project design and team leadership.
● Complete all phases of project lighting design, starting from the original concept through final phases.
● Directly responsible for developing all project deliverables, in conjunction with overall firm direction.
● Implements all project quality control, management for design and documentation.
● Deliverables include but not limited to: presentations, drawings (sketch, CAD, Revit), specifications, fixture selections, detail developments, budgets, calculations, mock ups, control diagrams, narratives, etc.,
● Manage multiple projects simultaneously, on budget and per project schedule(s).
● Directly responsible for workflow of any support staff - Designers, Junior Designers, Interns, etc.
● Assess project needs regarding staffing levels with an emphasis on utilization and profitability.
● Provide lighting design solutions appropriate with any client briefs, budget and or standards.
● Attend client and design team meetings, sometimes involving travel, as required.
● Create and present lighting design to client/team to 'sell' concepts.
● Provide onsite construction management of lighting installation. Issue field reports to design team, supervise final aiming of lighting fixtures and controls programming.
● Develop and manage project's fee, prepare reports and participates in monthly invoicing process for assigned projects.
● Have detailed knowledge (expert) of design industry standards and be able to collaborate within an interdisciplinary setting.
Qualifications And Requirements Include
● An accredited professional degree within the design industry (i.e. architecture, lighting design, interior design, etc.) - or work equivalent
● 5+ years of lighting industry experience
● Excellent client management skills
● Expertise in AutoCAD & Revit
● Fluency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
● Fluency in Adobe CS3 (InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator)
● Proficiency in AGI 3.2 or other lighting calculation software
● Expertise with CA Title 24 code compliance (commercial and residential versions)
● Excellent attention to detail
● Great time management skills
● Ability to manage project, team members
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills and English proficiency
