Architecture Lighting Designer

As a titled Consultant, Lighting, you will be responsible for overseeing the following aspects of a lighting project:

● Day-to-day design and technical project support
● Implement design concepts
● Perform lighting calculations and use results to inform project decisions
● Develop lighting design strategies and lighting layouts
● Develop luminaire and controls specifications and schedules
● Prepare reports and in-house mock-ups
● Prepare concept renderings and design presentations
● Job-site visits during construction
● Attend team and/or project meetings and interface with internal specialty groups

Minimum Qualifications:

● Bachelor Degree in Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, Architecture, or Lighting Design
● 4-6 years’ experience in Lighting Design
● Strong creative design skills
● Excellent verbal and written communication, with an emphasis on the ability to organize and present design information to clients.
● Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office, Bluebeam, Adobe Suite, and AGI32 or similar lighting software.
● Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP"s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
● Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Preferred Qualifications:

● Ability to render using Photoshop, 3DS Max, InDesign or by hand is preferred
● Knowledge of sustainable lighting strategies
● Working knowledge of energy codes and LEED

Requirements
● Degree in Lighting Design (architectural or theatrical) or Architecture / Interior Design
● 4 - 5 years professional experience in a lighting or design studio or 5 years minimum professional experience in the field of architectural lighting design.
● Experience of working directly with clients in both creative and administrative capacities (concepts, budgets, modifications as needed that are practical and possible).
● Thorough knowledge of AutoCAD 2018 or newer is mandatory. Revit is a plus.
● Knowledge of Vectorworks, Lightwright, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat. Working experience of AGI32 is a plus.
● Willingness to learn – techniques, processes, latest software and design tools available and as per current industry standard.
● Ability to travel (Domestic and International) as projects require (must have current passport).
● Candidate must be New York City Metro based and have current United States work documents.

Reporting to the Lighting Manager within the Mechanical & Electrical group; the successful candidate will be a creative force, who loves to play a key role in delivering cutting-edge Lighting Design projects for a range of industry clients including Transportation, Healthcare, Commercial, Educational, Entertainment & Recreation, Government & Cultural Buildings.

A Day In The Life
● Produce creative lighting concepts from proposal to detail design stage, including plans and design details, prepare specifications and schedules, build mock-ups, prepare sketch design proposals and liaise with architects, interior designers, and equipment suppliers;
● Attend design and site meetings, and produce technical reports;
● Produce accurate, efficient, creative and coordinated lighting design utilizing internal/external sources;
● Conduct ongoing analyses of fixture packages to identify opportunities and provide suggestions for optimal product and pricing selections;
