Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, Theater Production Design or closely related discipline.
1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
Familiarity with process and concepts for sustainable lighting strategies, principles, and practices.
Strong creative skills with an ability to balance lighting aesthetics and client desires with practical concerns.
Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Basic proficiency with artistic renderings, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Strong verbal and written communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
Proficiency with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD or Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft 365, InDesign or Sketchup and AGI21 or similar lighting software).
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Working knowledge of energy codes and LEED.
Prior internship related to the degree of study within the specific discipline.

Assistant Lighting Designer

Job Summary:
As an Assistant Lighting Designer, you will work closely with Associate & Senior Lighting Designers at every stage of the design process to create fully realized lighting concepts. Assistant Designers are the primary draftspersons for their assigned projects, and are responsible for generating and updating plots and ancillary files. Design staff at Studio RRD fully plan the technical framework and support systems needed to realize a client’s aesthetic, including rigging and temporary structures, power distributions systems, and lighting control networks. Additionally, Assistant Designers work on-site with other design staff to finalize ideas, supervise projects, and document the finished product.

Expected Qualifications:
1 – 3 years of verifiable professional experience in theatrical, event, broadcast, or architectural lighting design, or an otherwise applicable role. Relevant education experience considered.
Proficiency in 3D Vectorworks and Lightwright
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Unflappable, adaptable and ability to maintain positivity in a fast-paced environment.
High School Diploma Required, Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
Knowledge of entertainment lighting control systems such as ETC Eos and GrandMA2/MA3 is a plus.
Knowledge of power and data distribution systems is a plus.

Job Responsibilities:
· Draft lighting plots, construction details, sections, etc.
· Generate simple renderings and 3D visualizations.
· Generate Lightwright and other ancillary paperwork
· Pre-build lighting show files in various control consoles.
· Assist with the graphic design/layout of pitch decks and other creative files.
· Assist senior staff on-site to supervise projects, layout fixtures and other design work as needed.
· Learn design and project management skills from senior staff at all stages of the production process.
· Work on the organization and maintenance of the company’s digital assets and databases
· Other duties as assigned

This position is paid hourly, with overtime after 40 hours per week, with a starting rate of between $25-$28/hr, depending on experience. This is a limited-duration freelance position, starting on August 15th and continuing until October 20th, with the potential to extend past that.
