Senior / Junior Lighting Designer

George Sexton Associates (GSA) is seeking to hire a creative, ambitious Lighting Designer to add to our collaborative design team at both our DC and NYC offices. The work involves lighting design and production for world-class museums, commercial and residential projects. JUNIOR Overview: The junior lighting designer collaborates with project managers, senior lighting designers and other team members to develop a design which combines the creative expertise of all team members. The junior lighting designer plays an integral role in supporting the design team by:

- Helping analyze and select lighting from appropriate sources.
- Producing architectural drawings using software tools such as AutoCAD or Revit.
- Creating and working with models, mock-ups and prototypes.
- ENIWorking with senior designers and project managers to provide excellent lighting design services to clients

JUNIOR Qualifications:
- Degree in Architecture or Lighting Design or related field
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)

SENIOR Overview: The Senior Lighting Designer collaborates with a team of project managers, junior lighting designers and other team members to develop lighting designs and corresponding documents that align with the client’s specifications and needs.

The Senior Lighting Designer provides design expertise and project management support in a team environment. Important skills & experience includes:
- Project or Program Management experience
- Excellent communication skills in order to understand design needs and specifications, including energy requirements, for lighting design projects.
- Ability to develop a lighting design and all lighting design documents in response to client’s specifications and needs, while working on a team.
- Familiarity with commercial lighting fixtures and ability to select appropriate fixtures for projects in order to meet the client’s requests.
- Ability to develop architectural drawings that will ultimately be included in the final planset.
- Understanding of whether or not lighting installations are occurring in compliance with the design documents and ability to work to rectify issues that arise in order to satisfy the client.
- Travelling for meetings and site visits are expected, as required by the project.

SENIOR Qualifications:
- Degree in lighting design, architecture, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the lighting design field.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Microsoft Office, COMCheck, daylight design, energy code compliance, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit

Lecturer - Lighting Designer

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for a Lecturer (1-year, fixed-term, non-tenure-track) in Lighting Design. Courses may include THTR 29/129 Rehearsal and Performance (Lighting Design and Projections), THTR 33 Stage Lighting, and Production Manager for student Theatre and Dance productions.

Job Responsibilities:
Teach the Stage Lighting course (beginning level) using an approved core syllabus. Design (or supervise assigned student designers) 4 department productions, 2 dance concerts and 3 student productions. Serve as Production Manager for student productions (one week combined tech and performance for each student production).

- Attend all design and production meetings as scheduled.
- Provide necessary Design materials, lighting plots, instrument sheets, images and/or video, etc. necessary for and as requested by Director and Technical Director.
- Working with the Technical Director, Theatre Operations Manager and student crews, hang, focus and cue lights and projections, ready for technical rehearsal.
- Attend technical and dress rehearsals and strike for production.
- Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with teaching assigned courses, including:
- Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively;
- Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description
and course learning outcomes, and providing timely feedback to students;
- Holding regular weekly office hours on campus;
- Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline;
- Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses;
- Where applicable, teaching from an approved syllabus for the University Core courses assigned or working with the Chair to design an appropriate syllabus for submission for approval from the relevant Faculty Core Curriculum Committee;
- Serving as an advisor to a reasonable number of students, commensurate with the full-time equivalency of the appointment, by providing informed advice to those students;
- Developing courses for which they are responsible and contributing to general curriculum development.

Basic Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (PhD/MFA) in Theatre Design/Production. Applicants who are ABD or possess a Master’s degree, accompanied by commensurate academic experience in Theatre Design/Production or a closely-related field (5-7 years of college or professional teaching) will be considered.
- Demonstrates excellence in teaching Lighting Design at the college level.
- Collaborative work style, strong organizational and communication skills.
- Two years of experience teaching at the university level or commensurate professional experience.
- Ability to carry out the professional duties of position; working with department directors, designers, technical director and a student work crew.
- Experience in projection design (both still and video imaging.)
