Job Description:
o Work within a team to coordinate and deliver lighting design package from Concept Design through Construction Administration for a broad range of project types and sizes.
o Create design presentations for internal and client review including renderings, precedent reference images and light level calculations. Candidates are encouraged to bring their own creative ideas to the process.
o Produce design documents including drawings, fixture schedules and lighting control specifications. Coordinate with the Architects, Consultant Team, Clients and Manufacturers to facilitate the design process.
o Work with the Team to set up and review mock-ups throughout the design process.
o Site visits during the Construction Phase to meet with the Architects and Contractors, review the lighting installation, direct the programming of the lighting control system, and aim and focus adjustable lighting.

Compensation:
$60,000 - $76,000 for candidates with 0 to 3 years of experience.
$70,000 - $90,000 for candidates with 3 to 5 years of experience.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Senior Lighting Designer to join our New York lighting studio. Other locations will be considered.
- Manage day-to-day correspondence with project teams both internally and externally to coordinate and lead tasks amongst team members to meet upcoming project deadlines.
- Assist with developing and implementing lighting design concepts through all phases of the design and construction process.
- Assist the East Region lead with draft preparation of proposals and additional service requests when needed.
- Review and/or prepare concept renderings, imagery, sketches, and presentations.
- Review and/or develop lighting layouts prepared in Revit or CAD
- Review and/or perform lighting calculations, analysis, and rendering studies and use results to inform project decisions.
- Develop luminaire and lighting control specifications and schedules.
- Perform architectural and multi-disciplinary coordination including coordination of relevant mounting details.
- Review of light fixture submittals/samples and preparation of RFI responses during the Construction phase of projects.
- Review of light fixture installations and assistance with field aiming sessions and preparation of field observation reports.
- Participation in and coordination of light fixture mock-ups.
- Preparation of light fixture budgets and cost analysis to meet project budget goals.
- Implement sustainable lighting design strategies and demonstrate code compliance.
- Attend team and project meetings and interface with internal specialty groups.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $99,700 - $130,000

- Create lighting plans, layouts and visualizations using software tools, like AutoCAD and Revit
- Proficient with lighting calculation software (Agi32, IllumTools, or similar)

Technical Expertise
- Understand lighting equipment, fixtures, and technologies
- Specify appropriate lighting fixtures based on project needs, energy efficiency, and budget constraints
- Ensure compliance with Life Safety Code and current energy codes
- Capable of creating lighting control scenarios and select components to meet energy code requirements and client needs
- Lighting Certification (LC), preferred but not required

Lighting Calculations
- Calculate illuminance levels (lux or foot-candles) to achieve desired lighting quality
- Fixture Selection and Placement
- Select fixtures based on their photometric properties (beam angle, color temperature, CRI)
- Position fixtures strategically to highlight architectural features, create focal points, and ensure proper illumination
- Effective communication with other design disciplines and clients to integrate lighting seamlessly into the overall project

Main Responsibilities
- Support the Lighting Designer in developing the lighting concept for the show
- Work closely with members of the Creation and Production teams
- Actively coordinate the creative and technical requirements of the show
- Create, update, and communicate plans, lists of equipment, effects and colours, and any other documents relating to lighting design and installation to the individuals concerned, throughout the show creation process
- Draft and correct lighting specifications
- Organize and participate in lighting equipment demonstrations, testing sessions and workshops
- Prepare lighting project schedules and budgets, and monitor them closely
- Attend and participate in all production and creative meetings, as required
- Supervise the installation and proper use of purchased or manufactured lighting equipment
- Attend rehearsals in the studio or on stage
- Draft and gather technical documentation, user manuals and inspection procedures for the elements under your responsibility, in accordance with the expectations of the Production and Operations teams and with Cirque du Soleil standards
- Organize Technical training for the Operations Lighting department
- Perform all other related tasks as requested by the Technical Director.
