The Lighting Designer, under supervision, has a responsibility for assisting project designers with the interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating lighting projects. Has design input for specific areas of a project and may be responsible for the management of small projects.

Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Salary: $59,000 - $106,400

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Lighting Designer 2, you will have the opportunity to:

Provide complete lighting concepts and designs, luminaire selections, presentation development, photometric lighting calculations and renderings, BIM/Model production, lighting controls, energy and economic calculations, and specifications.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering specializing in Lighting Design or closely related field

Strong computer skill using AGI32, Revit and Microsoft Office
Interest in sustainable design
Strong verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Architectural Engineering specializing in Lighting Design

Principal Responsibilities
Responsible for architectural lighting design for projects of all sizes including architectural/interiors design coordination; luminaire selection, scheduling, and layout; point by point lighting calculations; controls coordination and sequencing; 3D modeling and rendering; and project cost control.
Makes major design recommendations and design decisions with little input from senior staff
Creates and presents client project design presentations both in person and via Webex and which may include renderings, sketches, layouts, and in power point or other formats
Provides consultation to design engineers for architectural lighting design areas
Coordinates design and schedule with other disciplines whose services are requested
Verifies the project meets scope and code requirements
Maintains project design notebook and provides documentation for permanent record files
Recognizes potential project problems quickly and seeks advice of the Project Manager
Calculates dimensional requirements, costs, and time schedules budgeted for personnel involved and coordinate work on the project
Observes quality and conditions on job sites and provides direction to the contractor for luminaire aiming and or design optimization
Provides a high level of service to clients

Required Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of technical plans and drawings
Knowledge and prediction of physical principals, laws, and their interrelationships, and applications to understand fluid, and material
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings
The ability to specify products and work with space to achieve a functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing design
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs, AGI and Visual Adobe programs preferred
Ability to clearly communicate visually, orally, and in writing to individuals or groups
Knowledge of local energy conservation code as well as lighting related points for LEED certification
Ability to multi-task across multiple projects and design challenges

Architectural Lighting Designer I

Essential Functions

Completing lighting calculations in AGI and review calculations completed by lighting design intern and less experienced professionals to aid in fixture selections and layouts
Has extensive knowledge of the IES lighting handbook and associated Recommended Practice documents
Has extensive understanding of typical lighting design criteria including new/developing changes in the lighting design industry
Review products and evaluate components, design quality of materials, issues of maintenance, product quality and provide recommendations for projects. Review comments/questions of junior staff on product selections and characteristics
Understand cost impact of lighting product selections and control systems (including general mark-ups, labor costs, and typical $/SF budgets) for projects, and can specify within project budget.
Knowledgeable in lighting control systems and develop one line diagrams, details, and specifications with minimal supervision from a senior lighting designer
Extensive understanding of national and local lighting and energy codes specific to each project and capable of selecting products and completing design to meet these parameters.
Lead coordination for lighting design team with architects and other disciplines for RCP coordination, design intent, W/SF for mechanical, etc.

Requirements

Lighting Certified (LC) preferred
