HDR is currently seeking a Lighting Designer 2 for our Building Engineering Services Business Group located in Omaha, Nebraska. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team consisting of core services of Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Site Civil Engineering. In addition, we offer specialty services consisting of Fire & Life Safety, Building Commissioning, Specialty Lighting, Controls Systems, OT Cybersecurity, Low Voltage/Security/Telecom and Construction Services. Our team works in a wide variety of markets including Corporate/Commercial, Healthcare, Industrial, Water/Wastewater, Federal and Mission Critical buildings and infrastructure.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Lighting Designer 2, we'll count on you to:
- Work with project teams on all aspects of the art, science and business of architectural lighting design
- Take responsibility for training and providing guidance to maintain CAD/model production standards.
- Work under the guidance of more-senior staff, as well as working independently, to support design presentation and construction documentation production for architectural lighting design projects. Take responsibility for lighting calculations, energy and economic calculations, building certification compliance credits, and CAD/model production, construction documentation, and construction administration support.
- Develop and build working relationships with colleagues and clients
- Support marketing efforts, development of qualification packages, and industry leadership.
- Perform other duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering specializing in Lighting Design or closely related field
- 5 years of experience devoted to architectural lighting design
- Lighting Certified (LC) through the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) or the ability to attain
- Member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and/or Associate of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD)

This is a full-time position where you would supplement our Lighting Team and provide technical and design support as well as documentation for a large variety of high-quality national and local projects.
Your Impact
- Under general supervision, provides technical support for project designers with the production of lighting projects.
- Assist with performing basic professional lighting design work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, layout, and systems to determine conformance with applicable standards and codes.
- Assist with basic technical assistance on various design, installation, and integration issues relating to creating state of the art lighting design that is innovative and inspiring, developing luminaire and controls specifics, applying day lighting/harvesting, and creating spaces that impact building capabilities, ambiance, safety, and security.
- Assist with generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, artistic renderings, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.
- Perform lighting calculations, analysis and rendering studies and use results to inform project decisions.
- Document lighting layouts in Revit and/or CADD.
- Assist in lighting mock-ups and design presentations.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, Theater Production Design or closely related discipline.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in lighting design and studio experience.
- Familiarity with process and concepts for sustainable lighting strategies, principles, and practices.
- Strong creative skills with an ability to balance lighting aesthetics and client desires with practical concerns.

- The candidate will work on project assignments which may include, although not limited to, commercial, institutional, healthcare, pharmaceutical and transit facilities.
Through mentorship and collaboration with Senior designers, the applicant is expected to work on:
- Architectural Lighting design and lighting control designs.
- Detailed lighting calculations, technical drawings, design and installation packages, technical reports, budget estimates, detailed analyses and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes.
- Lighting power density analyses.
- Assist in the preparation of specifications, contract documents.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior design, or Engineering.
Preferred Requirements:
- Familiar with Construction drawing standards.
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm in design of architectural lighting and lighting control systems.
- Working knowledge of Bentley MicroStation, Photoshop, InDesign and Bluebeam are strong assets.
