Job Description
● Responsible for initiating and developing engineering drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project’s discipline engineers.
● Under direct supervision, completes design assignments of moderate complexity.
● Under general supervision, develops engineering drawings of moderate complexity.
● Applies a solid level of understanding within a specific discipline.
● Familiar with codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline.
● Understands the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.
● Basic understanding of Engineer’s process of performing and verifying design calculations to support the overall project design.
● Fully understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews discipline supplier documents for accuracy.
● Basic knowledge of the use of requisitions and the role of materials management.
● Assists in the collection of data on manpower, man-hour, and labor costs requirements for design staff to aid in evaluating the budget.
● Basic knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs material take-offs for the discipline.
● Intermediate knowledge of discipline’s materials costs and concept of cost analysis and forecasting.
● Basic knowledge of the project change control process and can identify a potential change.
● Basic understanding of the discipline’s equipment and material lists.

We have a position available in our Chicago office for an experienced, motivated Lighting Designer with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for lighting design who will excel in a creative, supportive and collaborative office environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
You will collaborate with and support the Project Leader on all project aspects, including design, research, and documentation. You will work with our team of designers and our clients on all aspects of design from concept illustrations to mock-ups to controls programming sessions. You will help prepare the lighting team for project kickoffs and help celebrate at project openings!

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Your skills and abilities are more important to us than a precise number of years worked, but you will need about 3 years of prior lighting design experience. You must thrive in a team environment, be energized by working on multiple projects concurrently and meeting project deadlines, and enjoy sharing your strong technical and graphic skills.

You must be able to communicate design ideas visually and verbally, and should be a skilled user of Photoshop, AGI32, Revit, and Bluebeam. Experience in InDesign, LightStanza, ElumTools, Enscape, or 3ds Max is a plus.

A bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architectural Engineering, a related field, or equivalent professional experience is required.

We have an opening in Chicago for an organized, detail-oriented design expert with Revit or CAD drafting experience. Do you have strong technical and graphic skills? Then we want to hear from you!

WHAT YOU WILL DO
You will be part of our collaborative team of architectural lighting designers. You will support the lighting design team in the design and documentation of lighting projects. You will prepare presentation materials and construction documents for commercial spaces that range from museums to offices to landscapes to hospitality and healthcare. Your architecture, interior architecture, theatre, or lighting design background will inform your work and allow you to participate more completely in our design studios and discussions. The more graphic skills you have, the more aspects of our work you will be able to impact.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Your abilities are more important to us than the number of years of experience you have, but 2 years of drafting with Revit or AutoCAD are desired.

You must be a proficient visual and verbal communicator and be able to manage multiple tasks to meet client deadlines. Proven expertise with Revit or CAD, Photoshop, and Bluebeam or Acrobat is required. Experience with InDesign or Enscape is a plus.

We are a client-driven office, so you will go beyond the drafting aspects of the job. Strong organizational skills and personal initiative are required.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
You will work with our collaborative team of architectural lighting designers as a designer and a team manager. You will manage small and medium projects of many different types for a variety of clients.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
You must have excellent client care skills, work effectively as a team member, and be able to manage your time and project deadlines well. Your skills and abilities are more important to us than a precise number of years worked, but you will need about 5 years of prior experience as a lighting designer or in a similar position. You must have previous client engagement experience. You must be able to communicate design ideas visually and verbally, and should be a skilled user of Photoshop, AGI32, Revit, and Bluebeam. Experience in InDesign, LightStanza, ElumTools, Enscape, or 3ds Max is a plus. You must be proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook and be able to meet client deadlines.
