Reporting to the Lighting Manager within the Mechanical & Electrical group; the successful candidate will be a creative force, who loves to play a key role in delivering cutting-edge Lighting Design projects for a range of industry clients including Transportation, Healthcare, Commercial, Educational, Entertainment & Recreation, Government & Cultural Buildings.

Duties: The successful applicant will teach a 3 credit Lighting course; design the lighting for Cherry Orchard which opens April 4th; advise a student designer on a University Production, and therefore, serve as the teacher of record for a 3 credit practicum; participate in departmental annual portfolio review as a responder, January 26th and 27th.

Essential Job Functions:

- Work with architectural project teams on all aspects of the art, science and business of lighting design in a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment
- Perform lighting design tasks including complete lighting concepts and designs, luminaire selections, detail development and documentation, client presentation development, photometric lighting calculations and renderings, BIM/Model production, lighting controls, energy and economic calculations and specifications
- Perform Construction Administration (CA) tasks for lighting projects including site observations, pre-wire lighting controls meetings and commissioning of lighting control systems in the field along with aiming and adjusting accent fixtures
- Work with lighting studio staff in the creation of full-scale working lighting mock-ups in our lighting lab

Requirements:

- Enthusiastic about lighting, learning and collaborating
- Proficient in REVIT, AutoCAD, AGI, Bluebeam, Adobe Studio, ElumTools and Microsoft Office
- Demonstrates ingenuity and creativity
- Experience with daylighting simulation and/or calculation software is a plus
- Knowledge of lighting control systems (ETC, Lutron, HCS, nLight, Crestron, Watt-Stopper, etc.)
- Knowledge of LEED and/or WELL standards is a plus
- Familiarity/ basic knowledge of NFPA 70, ASHRAE, IECC codes and the National Electrical Code

Your Role:

- Under general supervision, provides technical support for project designers with the production of lighting projects.
- Assist with performing basic professional lighting design work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, layout, and systems to determine conformance with applicable standards and codes.
- Assist with basic technical assistance on various design, installation, and integration issues relating to creating state of the art lighting design that is innovative and inspiring, developing luminaire and controls specifics, applying day lighting/harvesting, and creating spaces that impact building capabilities, ambiance, safety, and security.
- Assist with generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, artistic renderings, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.
- Perform lighting calculations, analysis and rendering studies and use results to inform project decisions.
- Document lighting layouts in Revit and/or CADD.
- Assist in lighting mock-ups and design presentations.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, Theater Production Design or closely related discipline.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
- Familiarity with process and concepts for sustainable lighting strategies, principles, and practices.
- Strong creative skills with an ability to balance lighting aesthetics and client desires with practical concerns.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with artistic renderings, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
- Proficiency with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD or Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft 365, InDesign or Sketchup and AGI21 or similar lighting software).
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Your Role:
The Lighting Designer will function as the head of the lighting department both from a technical and creative aspect. This position is responsible for working closely with the Show Director on all show lighting designs including planning and programming. The Lighting Designer will be responsible for creating documentation to create a consistent reproduction of the “show” look. This position will also be responsible for managing and maintaining the lighting inventory for their assigned productions.

Qualifications & Experiences:
- 8 – 10 years of network level broadcast production experience creating plots and leading teams to execute the lighting of studio and remote (on location) productions
- In-depth knowledge of current industry standards
- Current ETCP Entertainment Electrician Certification
- Comprehensive understanding of the GrandMA control systems and completion of in person MA user training and advanced user training
- In-depth experience in the application of various lighting techniques using a variety of fixtures for broadcast production
- In-depth knowledge of AC power systems including proper distribution and load balancing
- In-depth working knowledge with the use of intelligent lighting fixtures
- In-depth working knowledge of control system networking for entertainment technology
- Able to design and plan the lighting schemes agreed upon with the Production creatives
- In-depth knowledge with CAD based lighting design and per-vis applications (VECTORWORKS preferred)
- Must have strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
- Must take ownership and accountability for assigned productions
- Good computer skills, a logical approach and creative eye
- Must be able to handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints
- Able to work flexible, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays
- Available to travel as required
